His wildest creation yet, a 1932 Ford roadster belonging to Sam Margarino, just earned Sam $20,000.00 cash at Darryl Starbird’s National Rod & Custom Car Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The $20,000.00 cash award "Go for the Gold" was chosen from a field of nine unbelievable vehicles from throughout the USA as well as Canada. (George Poteet – Memphis, TN –1932 Ford Sedan, Dick Price – Wichita, KS – 1955 Ford, Dave Hall – Phoenix, AZ – 1955 Nomad, Mike Buzzello – Omaha, NE – 1961 Ply, Dennis McClendon – Mesa, AZ – 1962 Chevy. Bellaire, Owen O’Dell – Van Buren, AR – 1966 Mustang, Rick Nelson, Fayetteville, AR – 1933 Ford, Denny Johns – Van Buren, AR – 1955 Chevy). These vehicles were all awarded a "Fine Nine Trophy" for being a part of this prestigious competition. Starbird’s Tulsa show is in its 44th annual presentation. The "Go for the Gold" $20,00.00 cash is in its 5th annual presentation. Tulsa is the largest indoor car show in the country having over 1000 vehicles in competition.
