These days it seems like street rod enthusiasts are more into driving their cars than parking them and sitting around.

1. I think I drove somewhat more than the 8,000 miles I've averaged each of the last several years.

From the Chicago area, here is a quick list of this year's trips:

Chicago to Nashville to Somerset Cruise Night to Home.
Chicago to Bowling Green and home.
Cruised with Good Guys from Elgin, IL to Columbus and home.
Americruise- Jasper, IN to Lincoln to Louisville and home. Two weeks, 2,700 miles.
Home to Kalamazoo to home.

Looking forward to next summer. Already have a number of trips planned.

You gotta drive 'em.

3. If I couldn't drive my hot rod I would sell it and get another hobby! We racked up about 5,000 miles in the last 12 months, when you consider in New York we have to endure winter months (salty roads). We enjoy shows, but half the fun is traveling to and from the events. There is room for everyone in the hobby, as long as all realize we have varying interests and that no one should look down their nose at what someone else is doing with their car. However, some are obsessed with winning dust collector trophies, and of them a few of them go overboard with their actions, their comments, their power parking and how they parked their trailers. Those same few seem to irritate many hobbyists. I just don't see myself getting any enjoyment out of hauling my hot rod in a trailer and watching the miles roll by from the cab of a diesel dually. I would much rather look across the top of my fat fenders and listen to doo *** tunes mixed with a nice throat sound from my Cherry Bomb turbo mufflers!

4. WE HAVE 3 CARS DRIVE, THEM ALL.WENT ON STREETRODDER TOUR # 4 LAST YEAR.IN OUR 34 FORD ROADSTER 3385 MILES IN 2 WEEKS.WE ARE GOING ON THE CA. TRIP THIS YEAR.

5. Am now retired and thinking of jumping "back into" street rodding, as I was a rodder and drag racer early in life, then got into other pursuits (professional bronc rider). I definitely want a daily driver and road cruiser. My idea is to not do a ground-up restore but to buy an older rod that is mechanically and body sound, but could use new paint and/or interior, and improve on that while driving it.
I'd really like to hear some of your ideas and experiences as to what I should look for in buying such a rod. I already have a growing checklist, but would enjoy any feedback from you experienced and current rodders.

PS. we live in the Texas Hill Country (south central) so weather-wise, can cruise year-round!
